More than 150,000 Indonesians perished when a large earthquake off Sumatra caused a devastating tsunami.

The wedding photograph of Jon Armstrong and his wife Nyanyak helps describe the damage done to Lhoknga, a beachside village south of Banda Aceh. There are seventeen of Nyanyak's family members in the photograph, only 4 of them survived the Boxing Day tsunami.

Jon and Nyanyak with their children Toby and Adam return home after a day at the beach. In the background the line where the tsunami passed, destroying the vegetation, can still be seen.

The majority of Acehnese effected by the tsunami await patiently in camps all around Aceh. They still have the blues but know how to play it also.

People in Aceh are tough.. six months after the quake and subsequent tsunami they are getting on with their lives.
Life goes on for those who survived in Aceh despite massive disruptions to their lives and on-going aftershocks a frequent occurence. Food and support are still required as infrastructure is rebuilt, but also lives are being rebuilt as marriages take place, small businesses are re-established, families are being re-united.
The majority of the beach side villagers still live in tent cities provided by the major NGO's as massive rubble piles need clearing before the major developments take place.
The slideshow documents some of the people of Lhoknga and Banda Aceh as they accustom themselves to this temporary way of living.
